The US Department of State has extended visa interview
waivers for certain nonimmigrant visa categories until 2024, aiming to ease
travel and reduce visa wait times for students, temporary workers, and other
qualified applicants.
The Department has given consular officials the discretion to waive in-person visa interviews for first-time or renewing applicants on an individual basis, given its recognition of the financial benefits of these waivers. This action attempts to shorten wait times for visas and facilitate travel for nonimmigrants.
The possibility of interview waivers for some visa
categories has made the process of applying for a student visa easier. Those
who meet the eligibility requirements must apply within their nation of
citizenship or place of residence, have never had a visa denied, and have no
current or past immigration restrictions. An extension has been made to the
waiver of in-person interviews for candidates renewing their visas within 48
months of the expiration of their previous visa. This calculated action,
approved by the Department of Homeland Security and the Secretary of State,
intends to shorten the wait periods for visa appointments at embassies and
consulates.
In-person interview appointments can be used more
effectively thanks to this simplified procedure, which is advantageous for
applicants who need an interview. The department is dedicated to easing
nonimmigrant travel and cutting down on visa wait periods for qualified
applicants. It recognizes the beneficial effects that foreign students and
temporary work visa holders have on the American economy. Interview waivers for
visa renewals within 48 months are still permitted under the current policy; in
2022, about half of nonimmigrant visas will be granted without an interview.
