Canada To Improve Work and Study Permit Times

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has updated its online application processing tool for work visas and study permits to provide accurate processing time for prospective applicants.

The online processing times tool is being improved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to make it easier for applicants to apply for work visas or study permits in Canada. Whether the application is submitted in person, by mail, or online, the clock begins to run from the day it is received by the IRCC until a decision is made. This action aims to give applicants more clarity and expedite the application process.

The Immigration and Natural Resources Council (IRCC) has shifted from relying solely on historical data to a forward-looking approach with its tool, which allows applicants to forecast processing timelines from submission and make plans for travel and housing.

The Canadian Experience Class, Provincial Nominee Programs, Federal Skilled Workers, Quebec Skilled Workers, citizenship applications, and sponsorships for spouses and common-law partners as well as parents and grandparents are among the immigration programs with projected processing periods.

Regarding programs not yet part of the forward-looking system, IRCC will keep using processing times that look backwards based on past data.

Application processing times for work permits (for individuals from outside Canada) and temporary residence permits (for those travelling, studying, or working) will be 14 and 21 weeks, respectively, as of May 9, 2024. On the other hand, if you do not apply for critical jobs, processing time can take longer than the period shown.

Processing timeframes are estimated and could change depending on certain situations. They do not account for application delivery time or biometrics collection. Your application may be processed faster if you have already applied. Do not reapply as this may cause your application to be delayed.

Prospective immigrants can make well-informed decisions and start their Canadian journey with the help of the IRCC's online tool, which provides precise timeline estimates and improved guidance.
