Aviation Unions have on Monday 14 September, shut down the operations of Arik Air, and grounded all its flights for allegedly owing its staff salaries.
The report confirmed that the union under the aegis of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and Air Transport Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSAN) said the action was over alleged non-payment of staff salaries since April, after placing 90 percent of the workforce on compulsory leave and other anti-labor practices.
According to Mr. Innocent Atasie, the Chairman, ATSSSAN, Arik Air who spoke on the development told reporters that the workers decided to shut down Arik operations nationwide when all efforts made to resolve the matter proved abortive.
The unions have therefore insisted that the industrial action would continue indefinitely until the management of Arik Air meets their demand.
