The Beauty Of Nigerian Tourism - South East

Nigeria is a country with various languages, cultures, festivals, and people. She has 36 states and these states are divided into six geopolitical zones. We have been looking at the specific culture, languages, festivals, and tourist attractions within each particular region. We started with the North Central region and proceeded to the South West and the South-South of the country. Now we want to look at the peculiarities of the Southeast.

The Southeast geopolitical zone is mainly occupied by the Igbo speaking people. This zone comprises five states, which are mostly Imo, Anambra, Abia, Enugu, and Ebonyi. Irrespective of what you are looking for, diverse cultures, exciting festivals, and a wide range of tourist sites, you will find them all highly represented in South East.

There is the Awhum Waterfall and Cave in Enugu state. It is 30 meters high and close to the Awhum Monastery, which also serves as a tourist and pilgrimage center. A unique fact about the Awhum waterfall is that it stays warm throughout the seasons.

Another tourism site is the National War Museum in Umuahia. This area attracts tourists as it houses various traditional and modern warfare objects. There are also different outdoor displays of military aircraft and warships.

The Ogbunike Caves in Anambra state is also a tourist attraction center. There are about ten interconnected tunnels occupied by different sizes of bats. In one of these tunnels, a stream flows and meets with the river Nkissa. Here, you get to feel the cold and warm water from the cave at their meeting point. Besides, the Nkissa river is an open ground where visitors can relax.

Another tourism site in southeast Nigeria is Oguta Lake and Holiday complex in Imo state. Oguta lake is blue in color. It is the second-largest lake in Nigeria. A unique feature of the lake is that it is neither salty nor dangerous. This makes it more suitable for many water sport activities. The Holiday complex has a standard 18- hole golf course and a recreation park for children.

There is also the Unwana Beach in Ebonyi state. The beach has a surreal picturesque effect with a lovely landscape and golden beach sand. It is suitable for relaxation and other activities.

The Igbo cuisine is filled with various vegetables, while their staple foods are yam, cocoyam, and cassava. The most important festivals celebrated in Igboland are the Yam Festival, Masquerade Festival(Mmanwu), and Ofala festival. The festival is celebrated in Igboland to recognize the power and authority of the ruler of the land. It is characterized by pomp and fanfare.

Nigeria is blessed.
