Emirates and Etihad Extend Travel Ban

The UAE carriers, Emirates and Etihad airlines have again announced an extension of the flight suspension from India while Emirates has extended the suspension of flight operations to and from Nigeria.

Etihad Airways has not resumed flights back to Nigeria since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic which battered the airlines' operations. A statement from the airlines has now confirmed that operations to and from India would remain suspended until next month while Emirates flight operations to and from Nigeria would remain suspended until further notice as negotiations between the governments from both countries continue to hit the rock.

The India travel ban has been extended until August 2nd, dashing any hopes of relaxation this month. Before the pandemic, Nigeria and India were Dubai's busiest routes. Currently, flights to the UAE remain nearly empty but continue to operate with cargo and outbound passengers. Passengers traveling to the UAE must go through alternative routes (unbanned countries) and must spend a minimum of 14 days in such countries.

Dubai Authorities announced in June that UAE residents could return if they were fully vaccinated and done with the tests.

America, The UK, and other European countries are already opened to Nigerian travelers but the UAE has refused to. An action which Nigeria's Minister of Aviation described as "discriminatory nature of the protocol by the UAE government."
