UK Introduces New Care Worker Visa Reforms: Revised Salary Limits and Recruitment Guidelines

The UK government has implemented significant changes to the Care Worker visa, altering both salary thresholds and international recruitment practices.

These adjustments aim to address concerns about workforce sustainability and ensure fair compensation for care professionals. A key change involves increased minimum salary requirements for visa applicants, reflecting the current economic climate and the value placed on care work.

Simultaneously, stricter regulations have been introduced to govern the recruitment of international care workers, designed to prevent exploitation and ensure ethical practices. These regulations may include enhanced vetting procedures for recruitment agencies and employers, alongside stricter criteria for demonstrating genuine vacancies.

Notably, rules concerning dependents of care workers have been altered, with reported restrictions on the ability to bring dependents to the UK.

The government's rationale behind these changes includes enhancing the quality and sustainability of the social care workforce, protecting overseas care workers from exploitation, managing immigration levels, and ensuring that domestic workers are considered for employment.

These changes are likely to significantly impact care providers who rely on international recruitment.
